    Blow-By Verified - Oil Catch Can R&D, Part 2: The New Kit!

    Function and utility often outweigh aesthetics, and our engineering department has paid particular attention to the two while creating the baffled oil catch can kit for the 2009 Dodge Ram 5.7L V8 Hemi. Your Ram works hard for you, so it's only natural to want to take as much care of your pride and joy as you can to keep it running at its best.

    We already know that this truck can use some TLC when it comes to the amount of blow-by the Hemi produces. If you need a refresher, in only 1,000 miles, we caught nearly 50ml of content, which is on the high side of tests performed on other applications. It was clear that our can was working, but there was one problem - our original two-ounce can just wouldn't cut it. You'd have to empty the can several times before you're even due for an oil change. That's an inconvenience we don't want you to experience, so we came up with a solution.

    A Real F-150'N Beaut'! Vol. 2 - Intercooler R&D, Part 5: Data and Product Release

    Many of you have been asking about the status of this project, and I have concrete information and data for you to look over as you make your decision on an intercooler for summer 2017. In the last update (which, I know was a while ago), we left you with what the final design of the core looked like, complete with renders and studio shots of the physical production sample.

    The project's lead engineer knows that any intercooler design should be able to live up to the demanding performance these trucks require during, off-road or work use, daily driving, and even towing vehicles. Our engineer tested three cores, all with slightly different design aspects, so our R&D bases would be covered. Each core consisted of a bar-and-plate construction, as they are much stronger by design and go with the tough theme of these trucks.

    The core we decided to go with gave us a 77% increase in core volume and a 163% increase in external fin surface area - not a mild improvement by any means.

    Sometimes there are products we can't wait to get on the market. The sense of urgency follows positive feedback after a release or hinting at a recently started project. There's pride in giving people what they want, what they need. When our 2003-2007 6.0L Powerstroke Transmission Cooler Kit was released, the question that kept coming was if it would fit the 7.3L. What followed was a "no, sorry." That didn't sit well with us. The efforts grew exponentially as more questions surfaced about fitment, and as the number of requests to make a direct fit kit increased.

    In retrospect, it would have been best to provide all you 7.3L owners with upgraded cooling when the transmission cooler first launched. The reason why our 6.0L kit wasn't on option then was due to the hose routing. The lines are different. The 6.0L already has hoses that can adapt to our cooler without the necessity of lines from us.     Some exciting developments are brewing in the world of induction hoses! We recently received into our R&D facility our first shipment of samples for the 2016+ Nissan Titan XD, and they are all looking great.

    Our tube's design is not overly complex, and it will be an awesome addition to the engine bay of this Cummins-powered Nissan. The design of the factory tube is interesting because of the type of bend it has. The orientation of the airbox opening does not have an even plane for a straight-through design that can just loop over to the throttle body. The opening angles out a bit, facing more in the direction of the truck's firewall. What results is an interesting loop

    We have begun developing a catch can system for the 2015+ Ford F150 EcoBoost! This project, although small (in components), could have a significant impact on the F150 EcoBoost market. Why? There are not many direct-fit options, and there are a lot of these trucks out there. Oil blow-by can be pretty serious, especially on turbo applications, and this truck is twin turbocharged!     XD Induction Hose R&D, Part 1: Design Plans

    We're on a roll with new Titan XD project development! In addition to our plans for improving the factory intake, we have decided to implement an upgrade that is simple and awesome. What we'd like to do here is develop a silicone intake hose that will replace the factory intake tube.

    The factory intake tube is a well-designed piece, but it has room for improvement. For instance, we can increase the volume of air that flows through the tube, which will only benefit this 5.0L Cummins turbo diesel. The factory piece will be comparatively restrictive in size when compared with our planned design.
