  1. Defending the Titan- Coolant Filtration Kit R&D, Part 1: Prototype Testing

Defending the Titan- Coolant Filtration Kit R&D, Part 1: Prototype Testing

Personally, I am a huge Nissan fan, but I try not to be too biased when it comes to working on Nissan projects. I do, however, remember how excited I was when the new Titan development vehicle first rolled into our headquarters in all its glory. I found myself pricing options on the Internet and weighing my student loan debt with the prospect of a shiny new toy. So with a love like this, it makes sense to protect it.

When developing products, we consider several factors. We evaluate possible improvements to the factory setup of a vehicle, to make more power, or to solve a problem with factory components. Also where we can create products to protect the vehicle. For all of the Nissan Titan fans who waited patiently for their trucks to arrive and are now enjoying them, it is important to us to protect your investment. The Mishimoto coolant filtration kit is definitely a protect-your-investment product.

    How does it work?

A coolant filtration system will remove sediment and other particulates

  2. One Cool Hellcat - Aluminum Radiator R&D, Part 1: Design and Test Fit

One Cool Hellcat - Aluminum Radiator R&D, Part 1: Design and Test Fit

Usually, when I write about our products here at Mishimoto, I'm looking for the underlying meaning behind driving.  Our performance intakes don't just let more air into your engine; they let it breathe as fast as you do when you're pushing the car to its limits.  Our oil coolers don't just keep oil cooler; they give you the confidence to shift a little later, to push the throttle a little harder.  Our products aren't just about what they do or how they do it; they're about possibilities and living a little faster than everybody else.  This time, however, my job is a bit simpler.  This time, I'm writing about our Dodge Charger Hellcat aluminum radiator and the point is clear: it doesn't blow up.

    A Not-So-Peaceful Mind

You see, about a year ago, Dodge released a factory service bulletin (FSB) for "intermittent coolant weepage from upper radiator hose or radiator."  Yet, if you search the forums or talk to people who have had this issue, the stories vary.  Some report smelling

  3. Simplify, Then Add Washer Fluid - Washer Reservoir R&D: Test-fit, Prototype, Pre-Sale!

Simplify, Then Add Washer Fluid - Washer Reservoir R&D: Test-fit, Prototype, Pre-Sale!

Mishimoto 2016+ Miata Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir Pre-Sale

At Mishimoto, we know how passionate the enthusiast community is about the fact that Miata Is Always The Answer, and we share that passion!

But by the same logic, we also feel strongly that Washer-fluid Always Sloshes Heavily Everywhere, Rendering FR-layout Legends Unnecessarily In-Direct. Always up for a way to improve on an already wonderful car, we are here to change that by bringing you a 2016+ ND Miata windshield washer fluid reservoir that embodies the true spirit of the car not only by being attractive, but also by shaving some pounds and adding some lightness (if I may borrow the expression from another famed light-weight roadster enthusiast).

I've found most weight-loss programs to be a bit over the top and borderline pseudoscientific, but at Mishimoto, we've adopted a three-step plan that works very well for us.

Here's a photo of the stock tank that we will be replacing:

Scanning Our Horizons: FARO Design ScanArm - 3D Scanner

Here at Mishimoto, we're all about speed and quality.  Our mission is to provide you with high-quality parts to make your cars better, and we love finding new ways to make those parts and get them to you faster.  Our newest companion in this mission is our FARO Design ScanArm.  FARO is a Florida-based company that specializes in 3D measurement technology.  FARO's products are used by leading corporations across numerous industries, from Aston Martin and BMW to NASA, so we're definitely in good company here at Mishimoto. The FARO Design ScanArm uses a laser, along with an integrated camera system, to map the surface of almost any object.  So how does this help us make parts better and get them to you faster? First, let's take a look at how the system works.

    Freakin' Laser Beams

The FARO Design ScanArm works by shining a laser stripe on the surface to be scanned.  An integrated camera then records the position of that laser at various points along the stripe.  The ScanArm records

ReSpiration Focal Point - Performance Intake R&D, Part 4: Let's Hear It!

This project has been strenuous, but "thorough" is our Engineering Department's proverbial middle name, so let's hear it for them (cue applause). The last update, which was relatively recent, consisted of a pretty big pile of data. Though necessary, it was a lot to soak in. Now that that's out of the way, we can get to the fun part - what this intake actually sounds like.

    img_2143r
Sneaking a peek of our prototype intake for the RS!

We really have to give it to our engineers. The reason they were so careful with this project was primarily because the software reported slightly increased fuel trims. We suspected that the 2016+ RS just has relatively high fuel trims from factory; but, being the thorough bunch that they are, the engineers wanted to be absolutely sure. We brought in another RS (thanks to our next door neighbors ID Motorsports) to do some stock baseline runs. (That's why the test car is now a Frozen White RS instead of our own Nitrous Blue.) We installed our prototype intake and drove

  6. The Tale of the Ugly Hose - Silicone Hose Kit

The Tale of the Ugly Hose - Silicone Hose Kit

Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro SS Coolant Hose Kit

Greetings, Camaro owners, and welcome to the first and only blog post about the new 2016+ Camaro SS silicone radiator hose kit. To get you all in the mood, let me grease you up with a little ditty about something to which we ALL can relate. (maybe).

    pablo-1

The above account, though fictional, is an example of something very real that could happen to anyone. This charming old tale does an excellent job at touching on two issues that stock coolant hoses bestow upon an otherwise wonderful vehicle.

Issue #1: The Ugly (but we can fix that)

When you open the hood of your SS, you want people to gasp with joy - not horror. The little boy in the story above fell in love with the Camaro's beauty, elegance, and emotion. We all can relate to that, but the stock hoses are just so"bland. We are offering the 2016+ Camaro SS coolant hose kit in multiple colors, so you can impress the next generation of car lovers in your choice of blue, black, or red. Check out some

  7. Keep your Cool- Transmission Cooler R&D, Part 2: Prototype Fitment

Keep your Cool- Transmission Cooler R&D, Part 2: Prototype Fitment

In our last post, we took a look at the stock Mustang automatic transmission cooler and our plans to make it even better. We designed the cooler in Solidworks, based off the measurements obtained from both the GT and the stock cooler. We will be doing our R&D with this bold yellow GT, but based on our research, this cooler will fit all models of S550 Mustang including the EcoBoost and V6. But enough about fitments, the prototype is complete! It is time to see how well our digital design translated into a real-life prototype.

So far the trans cooler is looking good. It is much larger than the stock cooler, 50% larger to be exact. The stock cooler comes in at 10 rows, where the Mishimoto cooler doubles its size at 20 rows.

With the stock cooler removed, we must now check the fitment of our trans cooler in the GT. Dan, our engineer, removed the bumper for better access to the cooler and lines.

  8. Incredibly F-150'n Cool Fitment - Intercooler R&D, Part 3: 3D Printed Test Fit

Incredibly F-150'n Cool Fitment - Intercooler R&D, Part 3: 3D Printed Test Fit

Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to the third update on the R&D process for the Mishimoto the 2015+ F-150 EcoBoost intercooler. For those of you joining us now who may not have seen our previous updates, you can check them out on our engineering blog. We reached out to you for some feedback, and decided to move forward with an intercooler that utilizes the factory location. We've shown you the 3D-models on the computer, but recently, we took those digital models and brought them to life with the help of our 3D printer.

    Printing Some Parts

Back in one of my friend's school days when he spent a lot of his free time consuming music and movies from various online sources (purely out of curiosity - any lawyers wanna chime in on the relevant statute of limitations, here?), his Mother gave him a stern talking to after having received a notice from the internet service provider about downloading copyrighted content (allegedly). In debating the ethics of such things, the phrase "Would you download

Keep your Cool - Transmission Cooler R&D, Part 1: Prototype Design

Over the past year we have been getting acquainted with our Mustang GT, and in the process we've developed an entire line of cooling products for it. In the spirit of staying cool, we are on to our next project, the Mustang GT Automatic Transmission Cooler.

Heat is generally the enemy of an automatic transmission. In fact, the Ford factory service manual notes that when the GT's computer senses the transmission overheating, it will limit RPMs until the temperature returns to a normal range. There is nothing worse than a track day ending early due to high temps of any kind, including in the transmission. Whether you are taking your GT to the track or doing any sort of hard driving, you may have considered the addition of a trans cooler. Ford certainly did. For this generation of Mustang they included an air-to-oil cooler rather than the water-to-oil coolers of older generations.

Our game plan is to go with the design

Cool Air For the EcoBoost - Intercooler R&D, Part 8: Test Fit and Dyno Data

Greetings, folks, and welcome to the post you've all been waiting for! We've made a ton of progress lately on the Mishimoto 2011-14 EcoBoost Intercooler, so I am happy to present you with a detailed update. As such, I will cut right to the chase so that you can see what we've been working on.

Oh, and I almost forgot - we threw this thing on the dyno and I've finally got some numbers for you! Before we get to that, let's take a look at how this intercooler looks in its final guise and see how it fits in our 2013 test subject.

Ford F-150 EcoBoost Intercooler; Factory Review

As a refresher, this is the factory tube-and-fin unit that we are replacing. You can see that it is rather small and as a result, does not make very efficient use of the space behind the front bumper, which is ample, but unconventional in shape. Check out our first blog post in this series to learn a bit more about the Ford EcoBoost intercooler and cooling system.
