    Introduction

Our team is finally working on some cool components for the new 2015 Subaru STI! As you know, the 2015 STI is essentially a hybrid of old and new Impreza components. It features the newer body style paired with the trusty EJ engine, instead of the new DIT motor featured in the WRX. We won't get into which is better or which we prefer, because we have nothing but praise for the updated chassis.

It was now time to test our components and ensure that they were operating to our standards. Our previous testing showed that oil warmup was rapid enough for use on a daily driven vehicle. Next we had to confirm that temperature improvements compared to the stock cooler setup were efficient.

We used a similar testing practice with the previous version of this kit, which includes the procedures and conditions listed below.

    Testing Conditions

    • Ambient Temperatures: 70°F-75°F
    • Driving Conditions: 6 miles of highway driving at 60 mph
    • Sensors: PLX temperature sensor reading 10 times per second

2015 Subaru STI: Vehicle Evaluation and Mishimoto Product Test Fitting

As you may be aware, our team recently had a 2015 Launch Edition STI in our shop so we could evaluate the vehicle, determine which of our current products fit properly, and begin designing a few new additions that would be specific to the 2015 model. Check out the video below featuring our Subaru expert, Jason. He discusses the changes that have been made with the new model and what Mishimoto components we were able to fit onto the vehicle.

Stay tuned for additional information regarding our upcoming products for the 2015 STI!

Now that we had our battery tie-down finalized, we could focus on the next component we wanted to tackle in the engine bay. Our next target would be the radiator stays, the small stamped steel pieces holding the radiator to the radiator support. We offer anodized aluminum radiator stays for a variety of vehicles including the previous generation WRX/STI, Honda Civic, and Ford Mustang.

For this particular project, we would be following a similar route. Our stays would be produced in aluminum and then anodized in a variety of colors to match an engine bay accent color. Before we get into the Mishimoto design, take a look at the stock components.

Mishimoto is not only interested in improving the performance, reliability, and power output of your new Subaru, but we also care about aesthetics. Small touches in the engine bay can make a big impact on the overall appearance and also provide a sense of personalization. Our first targeted component is the battery tie-down. The stock tie-down is rather bland, its main purpose being functionality, which is fine for a stock unit. For those looking to upgrade, a stylish aluminum replacement is ideal. In case you haven't yet peered into the engine bay of your "15, here is what the stock tie-down looks like.

Many of you followed along as our team developed a variety of new products for the 2015 WRX. Recently, we were lucky enough to come into contact with a gracious 2015 STI Launch Edition owner who was willing to lend us his vehicle for a few days of product development, test fitting, and of course dyno testing. Check out a neat gallery of images featuring the vehicle and a video featuring dyno pulls with our prototype performance air intake. More information on our intake design coming soon!

Our direction with this project is to develop a thermostatic oil cooler solution for the 2015 WRX. Our team decided to eliminate the factory liquid-to-liquid cooler and replace it with one of our thermostatic sandwich plates. By doing so, we could properly regulate fluid temperatures according to the temperature thermostat installed in our sandwich plate. Additionally, we could provide improved cooling efficiency with the use of our liquid-to-air heat exchanger carried over from our non-thermostatic kit.

So why not retain the stock cooler and make the Mishimoto unit thermostatic? We have a few reasons to back up this decision. First is clearance concerns. When adding a sandwich plate to the top of the factory cooler, the filter is raised as well. This provides a

Mishimoto Subaru WRX Oil Cooler Kit

After releasing our most recent direct-fit oil cooler kit for the 2015 Subaru WRX, questions from our fan base and online communities began to fill our inboxes. Our kit included all necessary components for installation and placed a large 19-row oil cooler in the front grille area. We saw huge gains in cooling performance for this particular setup, with decreases of over 25°F. This project was extremely successful and we anticipated that our customers would be very pleased with the performance. The primary concern with a portion of enthusiasts was low fluid temperatures. This kit was designed with a vehicle-specific oil sandwich plate that sat on top of the factory oil cooler/warmer.

This was a truly unique design, however the one feature this component lacked was an

Now that we had a finalized prototype, it was time to test this component to ensure that our improvements over the stock unit resulted in real-world advantages for our customers. An aluminum radiator provides the instantaneous benefit of increased reliability over the stock plastic unit. Despite this, cooling performance is always our primary goal with a heat exchanger.

Prior to actual road testing, our engineering team put together a few charts illustrating the improvements over the stock radiator.
