Now that we had our first prototype unit in, it was time to evaluate fitment and determine if any changes were necessary when compared to the stock unit. First, we swapped the shrouds to see if any fitment issues existed because of the added size of the Mishimoto unit.

The new 2015 WRX is a great toy for both daily use and as a weekend track warrior. The introduction of the FA20DIT into the WRX chassis has been well received, and from the reviews thus far, Subaru has done a great job with the new model. Although some might disagree with the styling, overall the car handles and performs very well. As for value, the 2015 model is a pretty decent bang for your buck. For those looking to track their brand new vehicle, a few bolt-on modifications will raise power levels significantly. A simple intake and tune will raise power to 275+ whp, which is a huge increase over the 210 whp we saw from a completely stock vehicle. Reaching 300 whp is potentially obtainable with a few additional exhaust modifications. We are

Finally, we made it to our day of testing! We had previously confirmed fitment and made a few minor adjustments to some external end-tank features to improve coolant flow and ease of installation. A member of E90post was kind enough to lend us his vehicle for this round of testing. This 2007 sedan was equipped with a manual transmission, JB4 software and an intake. This vehicle would be ideal for collecting testing data, we have found that the "Average" E9X owner has similar modifications.

Now that we have a prototype E46 radiator, what should we do with it? Test it of course! The data for this entire build is based around radiator testing. Check out the report from our lead engineer.

    BMW E46 M3 Radiator Testing

Test Vehicle Modifications: Supercharged, intercooler, methanol injection, full exhaust. Professionally tuned @550 whp on pump gas.

Cooling System Upgrades: 13-row oil cooler for supercharger located behind the kidney grilles. Front-mount intercooler (FMIC) located in the front air dam. Upgraded clutch fan that spins faster than stock clutch fan.

Additional notes: 100% pure distilled water was used for all tests. Stock radiator was in good condition

How do you go about redesigning a radiator to make it perfect for track use?  After coming to the realization that our existing E46 M3 aluminum radiator was not performing as we would like for track-specific vehicles, our team determined it was time to take action. Our original product was designed some time ago, and our processes, material use, and overall attention to detail have significantly improved since then.

These days Mishimoto is spending huge amounts of time in R&D to develop effective and efficient cooling

Thanks to an absolutely miserable winter in the mid-Atlantic area (will it ever end?), we have been struggling to find weather warm enough to test our products currently in the development process. To provide accurate, real-world data for our line of cooling products, we are required to test everything at temperatures we expect our customers to experience under normal driving conditions. Testing an oil cooler on a 30°F day is going to provide wildly different results than on a 90°F day! To provide the most accurate data possible, we needed to modify our strategies and look beyond our norms. In this case, we traveled down to Orlando, Florida, to properly test our brand new E46 M3 radiator!

Through some connections we were able to borrow a vehicle

If you have not kept up with Mishimoto's new line of direct-fit oil coolers, you will be surprised to see that we are working on developing a kit for any vehicle we find that has a general need for reduced temperatures. A majority of our selections are enthusiast vehicles, which we know are being driven on the track and pushed hard on a regular basis. Oil temperature regulation will help reduce engine wear and is key to ensuring that your bearings are properly lubricated. I am sure you already know that! As oil heats up it begins to lose its viscosity, and at a certain point it becomes essentially useless for both temperature reduction and lubrication.

Stock Evolutions are having some issues with temperature, but we have seen even more problems with
