    Close your eyes and picture an American pickup truck. You're probably imagining a Ford F-Series. And whether you know it or not, that F-Series you're picturing probably has a V8 under the hood. Like the F-Series itself, the Ford V8 is an icon of American automotive culture. Customers could have their iconic truck with an equally iconic V8 since the first F-Series truck was introduced in 1948. Over the years, the F-Series and the V8 powering it evolved. 42 years after the first F-series rolled off the assembly line, Ford introduced the Modular V8 that would power the F-150 for the next 28 years.

    Meet our New and Improved Compact Catch Can

    "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." This colloquialism is a phrase we've all heard before. It translates to, "If it's still working, why put any effort into improving it?" But that doesn't sit well with us here at Mishimoto, especially when referring to keeping your engine running at peak efficiency. So with that in mind, it's time our tried-and-true compact catch can got a refresh, and we're stoked to show it off. 

    Since 2014, our compact catch can has been filtering out harmful blow-by from CCV systems around the world in its universal form and has starred in tons of direct-fit applications. It has a long service history, but we wanted to evolve it into something even more effective.

    It's the end of a journey for our C8 Corvette catch can, both figuratively and literally. We've reached the end of our R&D process and completed over 1000 miles on our road test. Let's dive in and see where this journey has taken us.

    As the saying goes, "it's not the destination, but rather the experiences gained along the way." For our C8 Corvette catch can kit, it's a little bit of both.     When manufacturers launch their new vehicle platforms, like the Bronco's highly anticipated return, it's often linked with the flagship engine option that makes it the "true version" of that vehicle. A second, much more budget-friendly powerplant option is often available but carries the stigma of being an imposter. When it comes to the Bronco, though, this couldn't be further from the case.

    It's a strange time in the automotive world when it's an insult to call a Toyota a BMW. Yet, it seems that is one of the only small clouds hanging over the otherwise flawless return of the legendary Supra. I would say that's a win. Sure, it's Z4 in a cooler outfit, but I can't remember the last time BMW wasn't considered to be one of the benchmarks for automotive engineering. Why not shine a light on the real matter at hand, something that actually makes a difference? The only real speck on the otherwise gleaming Supra moniker is the issue of blow-by.

    BMW was on the forefront of direct injection technology on its production vehicles like the N54 back in the early 2000s.

    It's often an overlooked fact in the automotive world that every engine out there is affected by the by-product of its own combustion process, but it's true. It doesn't matter the size or the type of induction. Combustion gasses will still sneak past the piston rings, and those contaminated gasses will infiltrate the intake tract. The naturally aspirated V6 is an endangered species these days, and given the age of some of these VQ37 engines, the future for these power plants is starting to look bleak.

    Back From Pasture - 2021+ Ford Bronco 2.7L Baffled OIl Catch Can R&D, Part 1 - Concept and Prototype

    Twenty-five years ago, Ford sent its Bronco moniker out to pasture. America's demand shifted from capable off-roaders to monstrous SUVs leaving Ford's purpose-built trailblazer in the dust. The Bronco has returned from the wild, however, and it's more capable than ever, sporting Ford's rock-solid 2.7L EcoBoost and a sprawling repertoire of Overlanding goodies. This feral machine might roll off the line with the equipment to tackle the wilderness, but that 2.7L Ecoboost is still carrying the same chronic illness that plagues every internal combustion engine - blow-by.

    Blow-by, for those unfamiliar, is the unfortunate side effect of the internal combustion process. In short, when the fuel and air mixture ignites, combustion gasses are generated and are mostly evacuated when the exhaust valves open and ushered out by the piston. However, some gasses make their way around the piston rings and pressurize the crankcase. Breathers are incorporated into modern engine design to manage this pressure,

    We Struck Oil - Catch Can R&D, Part 1: Stock System Review

    Oil catch cans are a hotly debated topic, yet one fact is still irrefutable; oil blow-by will always be a real byproduct of the modern direct-injection engine. Intakes, charge pipes, and turbos all come into contact with the stuff over time. Sometimes, even newer, low mileage vehicles develop blow-by issues. With direct injection, fuel is injected directly into the cylinders, eventually resulting in carbon buildup on the valves. This was not an issue with port injection, since fuel injectors were placed in the intake manifold. The air-fuel mixture is sprayed directly on the valves, essentially cleaning them each time an injector fired.

    Carbon and oil buildup in direct-injection engines can negatively impact vital engine components and can result in an expensive fix later down the road.
