The quality of the airflow is essential for any vehicle boasting a forced induction system. You would think with a compressor literally sucking volumes of air that it would sort itself out, but that's not always the case. Turbulence, and the resulting inconsistent airflow, is the enemy. Any sort of change in the airflow can cause pressure differentials and ultimately keep your turbocharged engine from rising to its full potential. As laid out in the stock review of the Ecotec LTG induction hose, between the couplings, bends, and the muffler, the stock hose isn't exactly the most efficient design. If you recall, GM engineers have certain criteria to meet in their design process and have to consider a broader consumer base, even if that means sacrificing airflow, those pesky turbocharger sounds, and anything visually stimulating under the hood. We here at Mishimoto have a narrower consumer base to cater to. We design products for those of you who want a few extra horses back, who willingly bask in the whiney turbo soundtrack and want their engine bay to match the surly exterior of their muscle car.

Our engineers have been busy doing just that, specifically for those of you who plan on keeping the stock Camaro or ATS airbox, or have your own plans for a filter.. If you'd like us to handle the full intake in your Camaro, make sure you check out our full performance intake development.

At a first glance, the Mishimoto silicone induction hose is already more aesthetically pleasing than the stock hose. The slick silicone exterior looks more at home under the hood of your Camaro or ATS, and matches well with the sporty exterior. The grotesque bends are gone, and the block shape is traded for a cylindrical one, rather than the random assortment of forms on the stock hose.

This hose is more than just a pretty face though. Besides ridding the engine bay of the stock hose eye sore, the silicone design will maximize the airflow from your airbox to the turbo. While the fittings remained the same size to ensure a direct fit, the interior diameter has increased over the stock hose, allowing for a greater volume of air to flow through the hose. The slick silicone surface inside the hose will also allow for a smoother transition for all that air. Now, remember how the stock hose had all those bends, couplings, and was split into two sections? Our new design eliminates all of that, and is a single piece of wire-reinforced silicone that reduces the turbulence created by inconsistencies in the original construction. In addition, the silicone construction has a much longer lifespan than the rubber hosing originally found under the hood.

What do these improvements give you, besides an improved engine and turbo tone, and a dressed-up engine bay? We're always sure to be as thorough as possible when delivering a new product, so naturally our Camaro spent some time mounted to our Dynapack system. While we only had our Camaro on the dyno, the results will be the same for any other GM vehicle using the LTG Ecotec. Here's what we recorded.

Production Hose Dyno Chart

While the hose itself is only picking up 5 HP and 6 Ft/lb. of torque to your LTG, there is a significant jump in the top end performance thanks to better quality airflow into the turbo. Speaking of airflow, we also ran a flow bench comparison test between the stock hose and our silicone hose.

Production Hose Flow Bench Chart

At a first look, this graph might seem a little backwards, and appear that the stock hose was the one performing better, but think of this test like a game of golf. Less is more. What we're measuring in this test is the pressure required for the air to travel through the hose. So, the less pressure required to move the air through the hose translates to a freer flowing hose. We found our silicone increases the airflow over the stock unit by 22%.
