At Mishimoto, we pride ourselves on considering the details. The basis of our development process is of course performance, but what really makes our products work for our customers are the details. Even in something as simple as our 2018+ Jeep Wrangler JL intercooler pipe, the details matter.
If you look back over the development of our JL intercooler pipe, you’ll find a common theme: flow. We spent months focusing on flow and performance. We redesigned the intercooler pipe, 3D printed prototypes, and cast samples to test its performance. The result of that focus and work is a smoother and better flowing intercooler pipe. Job done, right? Not quite. We accomplished the big picture goal, but what about the details?

As the weather grows colder here on the east coast, there’s a collective smile forming on the faces of select drivers everywhere. Those of us whose engines come equipped with their own mini hurricane know this time of year as “boost season.” The colder weather means denser air, and denser air means the turbos under our hoods force more air into the engine. More air means more fuel, and more fuel means more power. It might just be a placebo effect from driving with the windows down, the chill of the wind blowing in your face, and hearing the whoosh of the turbo, but fall to the driver of a turbocharged vehicle feels like Mother Nature loaned us a small piece of her power for the next few months.

Our last 2018+ Jeep Wrangler JL 2.0T intercooler pipe post ended with our engineer, Jason, 3D scanning the stock JL intercooler pipe and engine bay. Over the next several weeks, those 3D scans would evolve into a digital drawing of our high-flow intercooler pipe, then make their way into the physical world in the form of a 3D printed prototype.

No matter how powerful Mother Nature becomes, humans try to control, contain, or harness her. We hold back rivers with dams, suppress ocean waves with dunes, and leash the wind to power our sails and our cities. But even when we think we can control her power, we’re often left in awe of Mother Nature’s ability to break that control. Nature’s strength and freedom are qualities we often admire and try to imitate. We mimic them in our art, our hobbies, and even the cars and trucks we drive.
At Mishimoto, we’re not immune to the awe of Mother Nature. That’s why we’ve been working to rival her power with the Jeep JL 2.0T Hurricane engine and our performance intercooler pipe.

Nature is an awe-inspiring force. So much so that we often try to imitate its power. Any time we want to convey monumental strength, we turn to examples in nature. Animals, mountains, oceans, wind and the storms it builds, all have been the inspiration for man-made instruments of power.
The automotive industry is a perfect example of this. Automotive nomenclature, especially, has deep roots in nature. Who doesn’t think of power when they hear “Dodge Viper” or “Ford Mustang”? There are more subtle nods to nature’s power too. The Volkswagen Scirocco, for example, is named after a Mediterranean wind that can reach hurricane speeds.
