When you're trying to make power, airflow is critical. Reducing restriction within the intake and exhaust systems is the most sensible way to improve engine efficiency. However, if you have a 1.8T/2.0T MK7 with an upgraded air intake, there might be something you're missing. The air intake system on the MQB platform mates to the turbocharger via a plastic turbocharger inlet pipe. Our team has found that this component is quite restrictive and in desperate need of enhancement. Mishimoto's Turbo Inlet Pipe for the MK7 chassis is constructed from durable, CNC-machined cast aluminum. Compared to the stock plastic unit, this is far more durable and eliminates any chances of long-term part degradation. Along with durability, we've also increased internal volume and enhanced the pathway of air. These design alterations result in significant improvements in airflow and a quicker turbo spool. This turbo inlet pipe fits with the stock intake, the Mishimoto Performance Intake and most aftermarket intake systems. No tuning is required for installation, although the benefits of this component will amplify as more upgrades are made on your MK7. As with all Mishimoto MK7 products, this inlet pipe includes our signature Mishimoto Lifetime warranty.

When it comes to Volkswagen's Golf, the concept is simple - quality over quantity. True, both descriptors come to mind for the various variants of the Golf, but the focus on driving and build quality are what made this scrappy hatchback a crowd favorite across the globe. In terms of upgrading the airflow through your TSI, GTI, or R's engine, we have a similar approach. Well, more of a combination of the two.
Quantity and quality go hand-in-hand when updating an intake system. For an internal combustion engine, the more, the merrier. While we have already sorted most of the EA888's intake system, there's still a bottleneck at the turbo inlet. We've already been hard at work optimizing this elbow, but now the fruit of our labors is here in our shop.
Last seen clad in 3D plastic, our design has reached its final cast-aluminum form for vastly improved durability over the factory inlet, but that's not the only difference. The two other main updates were in the name of improved airflow.

When it comes to airflow, consistency is key. Whether it's a 1000 horsepower supercar or a nimble hot-hatch, keeping a smooth airflow is vital to every engine's performance. We're already on the case with maintaining flow consistent with the rest of the MK7 Golf GTI/R's intake, but we wanted to keep our improvements flowing after the intake.
Our quest for optimized airflow on the EA888 2.0T continues with the turbo inlet. Before we dive into how we plan to Mishify the MK7's inlet, we first need to look at Volkswagen's design from the factory.
Well, it's plastic, for starters. Plastic is not necessarily a bad thing, though. Volkswagen utilized their plastic injection molding with high-density polyethylene to create these elbows on a monumental scale without breaking the bank. For most drivers, this turbo inlet will suit their needs, but those adding more boost and power might be in the market for something a little more durable.
